As women we are often working in spaces that don't always provide an environment for progression or capacity for growth. Sometimes, we fall down and we have no one to pick us up. We feel alone among many, mainly because working in a hostile environment or under stress can be dreadful place. In fact, workplace stress creates anxiety, depression and even lowers our immune system. I experienced this feeling when I first started out in my career. I felt overwhelmed by the moments I was put on the spot or gossiped about. I had no idea how I was going to get out of this period of uncertainty and to make matters worse, when you're trying to make ends meet, the last thing you need to feel is the social pressure.

Nowadays, toxic work environments are at an all time high. But for me, one of the best ways in which I am able to "turn the channel" or get past adversity is essentially through mindfulness and body awareness. I make a very strategic choice in how I respond to stress and / or conflict. As soon as I am confronted with a challenge, such as a deadline, a major project, or a difficult client, I take a moment to pause. I remind myself to freeze. I breathe. I take a minute to process and accept the reality I'm faced with. Then I hone in on my core and inner gut to stabilize and center my mind.

The mind-gut connection is so powerful and it's important to use this power in a positive way. We have the ability to control the output of our energy, which means we have the ability to control our overall health and stress levels. That's why I feel it's so important to start seeing challenges as opportunities, it's like a little test from the universe to help us grow. Remember to stay grounded, be true to yourself no matter what others think, always take a moment to slow down. Your mind and body will feel less drained throughout the day and you will be able to focus on your goals!

Thank you,

Jasmine
